We are signing up to a new system which will allow health and social care professionals from outside the GP practice directly involved in your care to view the most up to date information about you. This allows professionals caring for you to more understand your needs and means you only have to tell your history once. For more information please ask for a leaflet at reception or see attached link. You will be asked for your consent whenever a professional outside the GP practice wishes to view your record. If you do not wish your information to be shared in this way please let us know.
We have a new telephone system which allows you to book or cancel a GP appointment using our automated system. Please try to use this as much as you can. If you feel that you are being kept in a 'loop' that is because the lines are busy but your call will be answered as soon as possible. Thank you

A selection of appointments are available to book online. You can also order your regular repeat medication and access your medication and allergies using the same online service. If you are interested in this service please ask the receptionist for a registration form for internet access.

All our patients have now been allocated a named GP, this does not affect which GP you see or who visits you at home in any way. You can obtain the name of your named GP by contacting the Practice. Please note that when Dr J Walker retires on 31.1.16 his patients will be transfered to Dr W Barber. Thank you.

Barnsley GPs and pharmacies are offering a new service which gives you more choice and easier access when it comes to treating minor illnesses and ailments. This service is called Pharmacyfirst and means that you can get advice and/or medicines for common, less serious illnesses from your local pharmacy, without having to make an appointment with your GP.
If you don't normally pay NHS prescription charges, then any medicines supplied under the Pharmacyfirst scheme will be FREE. If you do pay for your prescriptions, then the cost of the medicines should be much less than the prescription charge and you get the same great advice from your pharmacist. Your pharmacist is a qualified health care professional who can help with your health problems. The pharmacist will offer you a private space to talk about your symptoms.
The following condiitons are currently covered by the scheme: allergies; athlete's foot; blocked nose; cold sores; conjunctivitis; constipation; cough; dermatitis; diarrhoea; earache; eczema; ear wax; haemorrhoids; hay fever; headache; head lice; heartburn; indigestion; infant colic; mouth ulcers; nappy rash; oral thrush; pain; scabies; sore throat; teething; threadworms; vaginal thrush; verrucae; warts.

IMPORTANT CHANGES TO THE WAY YOUR PERSONAL DATA IS HANDLED
Under a new scheme called care.data your GP will soon be required to supply confidential information from your medical records to a central database at the Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC).
Your practice has no choice but to allow HSCIC to extract this information and once your data has been extracted, your GP cannot control or protect how that information is used, shared or who has access to it.
But you do have a choice - YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO OPT OUT.
Staff training is normally held at Gold Street surgery in the afternoon of the last Tuesday of each month. Worsbrough Health Centre staff training is normally held in the afternoon of the last Wednesday of each month.
The Dove Valley Practice is based at two sites, Worsbrough Health Centre and Gold Street Surgery. Appointments, home visit requests and all other enquiries can be dealt with at both sites. There are two telephone numbers you can ring :

Patients can ring either number especially during busy times, but please let the receptionist know which surgery you wish to attend.
The opening hours displayed on our website relate to the times when a receptionist is available, and not to the actual surgery hours. We do offer appointments from 7.30am on some mornings and till 7.00pm on some evenings. On these occasions, there is no reception cover, but patients can use the automated check in for arrival.
We have been asked by the PCT to look at our patient's attendance in A&E and to try, especially, to reduce 'avoidable' attendances in core hours. We are open from 8.00am - 6.00pm (with additional earlier and later surgeries) Monday to Friday. If you have a problem that is urgent we will always see you that day. This practice is taking part in a new NHS service that helps your family doctor to identify whether you need more help to manage your health. The service is called "risk profiling".
Using information from your health records, a secure NHS computer system will look at any recent treatments you have had in hospital or at this surgery, and any existing health conditions that you have, and alert your doctor to the likelihood of a possible future admission. The clinical team at the surgery will use the information to help you get early care and treatment where it is needed.
The information will be seen only by qualified health workers involved in your care. NHS security systems will protect your health information and patient confidentiality at all times.

The average pay for GPs working in Dove Valley Practice in the last financial year was £92,654 before tax and national insurance. This is for 6 full time GPs and 3 part time GPs who worked in the practice for more than six months.
